“ALL THE DARKNESS IN THE WORLD CANNOT EXTINGUISH THE LIGHT OF A SINGLE CANDLE” – ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

KEZIAH MUKALEL, STUDENT INTERN

Hi I’m Keziah (She/Her)

It takes a lot of courage to take the first step, so I’m so happy to see you exploring the possibilities! I believe that even in moments of darkness, uncertainty, and heaviness, there remains a spark of resilience and strength that cannot be extinguished. Even when that spark feels hidden beneath overwhelming challenges or dimmed by despair, I believe the path toward healing is never out of reach.

In our work together, I hope to help you reconnect with that inner light and support it in growing brighter than ever before. My role as a student intern is to create a warm, collaborative space where you can safely explore your experiences, reconnect with yourself, and move toward the life you want to build. I see therapy as a place where your story matters, and where together we can explore patterns, beliefs, and emotions that shape your present, while gently working toward a future aligned with your authentic self.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, client-centered, and trauma informed. I draw from modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI), and I incorporate strength based and mindfulness informed perspectives. I strive to meet you where you are, supporting your self-discovery, while empowering you to discover the inner resources you already possess.

I completed my undergraduate degrees in Social Development Studies and Social work from the University of Waterloo, where I am now pursuing my Master of Social Work. More recently, I’ve worked with young adults navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, academic pressure, discrimination, and social anxiety or isolation. Before pursuing social work, I supported individuals with development disabilities in accessing inclusive programming outside their usual group homes or residences. I continue to engage in advocacy work and raise awareness around accessibility, inclusion, and social equity for persons with disabilities.

Outside the therapy room, I spend time with family and friends and look for any excuse to visit my nephew. Growth is one of my core values, and as such I deeply appreciate new experiences and challenges, whether that’s attempting a 5K foam run, travelling to explore different cultures, or simply journaling. These experiences keep my inner light shining bright, and I hope that you too can discover peace, self-compassion, and light in your own journey.
