Grief Group Therapy: FAQs

I know that Exhale Therapy has moved locations. Where will this group take place?

This group meets at our new home: 475 Park Street, Kitchener (corner of Park & Wood). There's free parking on-site and nearby street parking. The closest ION stop is Grand River Hospital, and buses 4, 7, and 16 stop nearby. We're also just two blocks from the Iron Horse Trail if you're walking or biking.

Is this group covered by my insurance plan?

Most plans that cover therapy with a Registered Psychotherapist will cover this group. We suggest checking your own coverage to be sure.

How much do I have to participate in this group?

While we ask that folks commit to weekly attendance, participants are invited to share and participate as much or as little as they wish. There is no obligation to share personal stories unless you wish to.

I’ve experienced a loss from suicide. Is this group right for me?

Suicide loss is a profound and specific form of traumatic grief. This group does not provide support specifically for suicide loss at this time. If you or someone you know is grieving a suicide loss, we encourage you to reach out to our team for individualized support. We are also working to offer dedicated grief support groups for suicide loss in the future, please stay connected for updates.

I’ve experienced the loss of a pet or support animal. Is this group right for me?

Grieving the loss of a pet or support animal can be an incredibly painful and personal experience. This group does not specifically address pet loss. If you are navigating this type of grief, we encourage you to reach out to our team for individualized support. We are here to help you process and honor the unique bond you shared with your pet.

I’m already a client at Exhale. Do I still need to book a consultation to join this group?

Yes. Our Grief Therapy Group is a closed group, meaning it’s intentionally structured and not a fit for everyone. To ensure a safe, supportive, and cohesive space for all participants, and to make sure this group is the right fit for where you are on your journey, we ask that all interested parents complete a brief consultation.

If we find that this particular group isn’t the best fit right now, not to worry, our team will offer thoughtful recommendations for other community support that may be a better match.

What makes this grief therapy group different from others?

This grief therapy group is facilitated by a Registered Psychotherapist, which ensures a safe, supportive, and professionally guided space for healing. Unlike peer-led or informal groups, this setting combines the empathy of shared experience with the clinical expertise necessary to navigate complex emotions, trauma, and the unique ways grief shows up in our lives. Participants benefit from evidence-based approaches, structured support, and the opportunity to explore their grief with someone trained to recognize and respond to emotional and psychological needs.
