“AND NOW THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT, YOU CAN BE GOOD.” — JOHN STEINBECK

FILIZ TAMER, RP (QUALIFYING)

Hi, I’m Filiz!

I love supporting people in learning how to be comfortable with the unknown as they create something new. I won’t try to make your life seem easy or neat; we’ll lean into the absurdity of it all.

In sessions, we’ll explore your values and the stories you hold about yourself, your relationships, and the world around you. We’ll identify themes and patterns and understand them together. These become the foundation for creating an empowering therapeutic relationship, the catalyst for healthy and effective change or an appreciation and acceptance of what is.

My top priority is creating an environment where clients can comfortably be themselves. At my core, honesty and skilled professionalism are the pillars of my practice. I also recognize the therapeutic value of humour… sometimes in the heart of darkness, there is laughter, which helps us face the uncontrollable.

I believe in a sex-positive, trauma-informed approach that empowers and guides individuals and couples toward creating authentic, healthy, and fulfilling relationships with themselves and others. My approach is collaborative and integrative, and sessions will always be tailored to your direct needs with frequent check-ins. I have specialized training in relational therapy, and I am influenced by a variety of therapeutic modalities, such as Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I have journeyed with clients whose needs range from affair recovery, trauma, immigration adjustment, grief and loss, depression, isolation, identity, ethical non-monogamy, and self-esteem to issues facing 2SLGBTQ+ people. On a personal note, I worked in consulting for seven years before changing careers and have first-hand experience with the stress and pressure of a corporate job.

Every day, I am filled with gratitude for the work I do. When I’m not working, I enjoy playing board games, training our latest foster pup, and planning my next hiking trip. I live in Kitchener with my partner, our cat Bijou, and her dog Maggie.
