Postpartum Group Therapy: FAQs

I know that Exhale Therapy has moved locations. Where will this group take place?

This group meets at our new home: 475 Park Street, Kitchener (corner of Park & Wood). There's free parking on-site and nearby street parking. The closest ION stop is Grand River Hospital, and buses 4, 7, and 16 stop nearby. We're also just two blocks from the Iron Horse Trail if you're walking or biking.

Can I bring my baby to this group?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your baby to the group! We do ask that you leave other children with another caring adult during group sessions as we do not have appropriate toys or other occupying resources for them. We also ask that you bring baby in arms, wearing baby, or in their carseat, as any strollers will need to be left upstairs, outside of the group area.

Is this group covered by my insurance plan?

Most plans that cover therapy with a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) will cover this group. We suggest checking your own coverage to be sure.

I’ve experienced trauma during or after birth. Is this group right for me?

While this group isn’t focused on trauma processing, parents with complex pregnancy, birth, or postpartum stories are absolutely welcome. Both Jacqueline and Carly are trained and experienced in supporting trauma.

I’m already a client at Exhale. Do I still need to book a consultation to join the Postpartum Therapy Group?

Yes. Our Postpartum Therapy Group is a closed group, meaning it’s intentionally structured and not a fit for everyone. To ensure a safe, supportive, and cohesive space for all participants—and to make sure this group is the right fit for where you are on your journey—we ask that all interested parents complete a brief consultation.

If we find that this particular group isn’t the best fit right now, not to worry—our team will offer thoughtful recommendations for other community support that may be a better match.

What makes Exhale’s postpartum therapy group different from other community groups?

While there are some wonderful community-based postpartum groups that offer meaningful peer connection, our group offers something more. This is a therapy group, not just a support group—which means it’s led by experienced, qualified mental health professionals who bring clinical insight, evidence-based practices, and therapeutic structure into every session.

In addition to fostering connection and shared understanding, our group provides a deeper level of support through psychoeducation, emotional processing, and real-time skill-building. Sessions are tailored to the unique needs of the group, guided by therapeutic frameworks that help participants explore a wide range of postpartum topics—from identity shifts and relationship changes to anxiety, guilt, and the mental load of parenting.

After attending, many participants report feeling more grounded, connected, and equipped. You’ll walk away with practical tools, increased self-awareness, and—perhaps most importantly—a renewed sense of who you are, both as a parent and as an individual.

Another major benefit? You get the value of therapy at a fraction of the cost of individual sessions—plus, many extended health insurance plans will cover the group, making it an accessible and impactful way to receive high-quality support.

Is this group about the baby or the parent?

This group is about you. While your baby plays a significant role in your experience, the deeper goal of this group is to help you reconnect with your personal identity outside of parenthood. We focus on navigating the challenges of postpartum life while supporting you in rediscovering who you are as an individual—separate from your role as a parent. It’s about finding balance, strengthening your sense of self, and thriving both as a person and a parent.
