Cognitive Processing Therapy

TRAUMA THERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS IN KITCHENER-WATERLOO AND SURROUNDING AREAS.

“Remember that PTSD is not a choice. It is a result of a traumatic incident, something that nobody chooses."

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a well-supported and researched therapeutic intervention for individuals who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

This form of therapy prepares individuals with skills needed to approach processing one’s traumatic incident in a safe and therapeutic setting. CPT utilizes worksheets as tools for practicing the skills taught in session and will help individuals develop more effective ways to think about their traumatic incident(s) along with the effect it may have had on your life. This 12-session protocol has been shown to be effective for a variety of traumatic events including (but not limited to) a life-threatening injury or illness; a witnessed (or learned) death or injury; first responders who have witnessed work-related trauma; war veterans who are struggling with memories of the events that occurred  while deployed; individuals who have been assaulted; those who were victims in natural disasters; and those who witnessed or were victims to any and/or all other traumatic incidents.

If you are an individual in Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas struggling with symptoms of avoidance, nightmares, dissociation, low mood, lack of motivation and panic, fear or anxiety this treatment intervention may be appropriate for you.
