Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT FOR INDIVIDUALS IN KITCHENER-WATERLOO AND SURROUNDING AREAS.

β€œThe greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”

William James

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based practice widely considered to be the gold standard for treatment of a variety of mental health difficulties including depression, anxiety, and more.

A trained cognitive behavioural therapist can assist you in thinking about your problems in new ways and assist you in modifying behaviours that may be contributing to your challenges. CBT is highly structured, collaborative, and time sensitive. This means that in CBT, our sessions will follow a logical progression, the goals of therapy will be decided collaboratively between the therapist and the client, and progress is expected within a short period of time.

CBT focuses on the relationships that exist between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Together, we will evaluate all of these elements and focus on efforts on the pieces that will likely be associated with the most change. During CBT, clients will be expected to engage in activities outside of sessions in order to maximize the benefits. Together, the therapist and client will discuss these activities on a weekly basis and progressively increase their difficulty in order to maximize the benefit for the client.

Often times, we cannot change the difficult situations in our lives but we can change how we think about those situations. If we change the way we think, we change the way we feel. Change is possible!
